Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (2024)

Highlights

  • Mods in Remnant 2 can enhance basic weapons and make them more effective in combat.
  • Different mods require specific crafting materials, which can be obtained by defeating powerful bosses and exploring certain areas.
  • Mods fulfill a similar purpose to Mutators in the sense that they can be used to enhance weapons. However, unlike Mutators, weapon mods provide active abilities instead of passive effects.

Mods can turn even a basic weapon into an implement of death and destruction. But with several dozens of them available in Remnant 2, it can be difficult to choose the right weapon mod for the right occasion. With that in mind, we’ve put together a handy list of excellent mods that work well with pretty much any build.

In order to keep things interesting, we decided against including any mods that come pre-attached to certain weapons and can’t be removed from them. You can check out our list of the best boss weapons in Remnant 2 to learn more about those. This particular list only includes standard mods that can be freely attached to the weapon of your choice.

10 Energy Wall

Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (1)

Energy Wall is a mod that deploys a barrier capable of absorbing enemy projectiles. The wall isn’t impenetrable from your side, allowing you to shoot through it, but it will block all fire from the opposite side, at least up to a certain point. After 30 seconds or once the wall absorbs 500 damage, the barrier will be depleted and you’ll need to deploy a new one. Energy Barrier works somewhat similarly to the unique mod found on the Cube Gun, which you can acquire by defeating the Labyrinth Sentinel. Unlike Cube Shield, Energy Barrier can’t be used to deal damage, but it lasts twice as long and costs half as much Mod Power.

Energy Wall can be crafted at Ava McCabe in Ward 13 using an Ionic Crystal, 5 Lumenite Shards, and 500 Scrap. Ionic Crystals are unique crafting materials that can be found in the Timeless Horizon region of N’erud. Unlike most of the other rare crafting materials, Ionic Crystals don’t drop from bosses. Instead, they can be found in multiple areas across the Timeless Horizon and you can find more than one of them per run. Getting your hands on one of them is mostly just a matter of keeping an eye out while exploring the area.

9 Voltaic Rondure

Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (2)

Voltaic Rondure is a mod that launches a ball of energy capable of dealing Shock damage to all enemies caught in its path. The orb moves slowly and has a small radius, but it lasts for a total of 20 seconds, which isn’t too shabby all things considered. While active, the ball of energy deals 20 Shock damage and applies Overloaded. Overloaded causes a small explosion every few seconds that damages both the afflicted target and nearby enemies.

Voltaic Rondure can be crafted at Ava McCabe in Ward 13 using Bone Sap, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 500 Scrap. Bone Sap is a special crafting material that drops from the Bloat King in Losomn. While you're in the area, you can easily get your hands on another decent weapon by looting the Losomn Asylum Safe. The Bloat King is a fairly challenging boss that spawns tons of adds all throughout the fight. Make sure you have enough Shock Resistance before going in because you’re almost guaranteed to get Overloaded otherwise.

8 Skewer

Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (3)

Skewer is a mod that fires a magical spear that embeds itself into anything it comes into contact with. If it hits an enemy, the spear instantly deals 125 damage and then explodes a few seconds later for 140 additional damage. The explosion also affects enemies in a small radius around the primary target. If it hits a wall or an object, the spear will still burst, but it won’t inflict the initial damage since that only triggers when there’s a primary living target to latch onto.

Skewer can be crafted at Ava McCabe in Ward 13 using a Dread Core, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 500 Scrap. Dread Core is a special crafting material that drops from Venom in Root Earth. Venom is a very challenging opponent with a versatile moveset that constantly keeps you guessing. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution to dealing with this boss since it doesn’t have any obvious exploitable weaknesses. It doesn’t help that the entire fight is a visual mess where you’ll spend half the time trying to figure out what’s happening on the screen.

7 Witchfire

Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (4)

Witchfire is a mod that launches a projectile that explodes on impact and leaves a trail of fire in its wake. Enemies that walk through the flaming trail take 55 Fire damage per second and get afflicted with Burning, a negative status effect that deals an additional 200 damage over 10 seconds. The trail itself only lasts five seconds, but that’s usually enough to set at least one or two enemies on fire if you time it properly.

Witchfire can be crafted at Ava McCabe in Ward 13 using Alkahest Powder, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 500 Scrap. Alkahest Powder is a special crafting material that drops from Gwendil the Unburnt in Losomn. While Gwendil herself might be unburnt, she doesn’t have any qualms about trying to set the player on fire. Armor with good Fire Resistance and a couple of jars of Mud Rub will definitely come in handy during this fight.

6 Song of Eafir

Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (5)

Song of Eafir is a mod that fires a projectile capable of staggering most ground enemies in a fairly wide radius around the impact point. The projectile doesn’t deal any damage to ground enemies, but does cause flying ones to take 150 points of damage. In addition, the mod creates a debuff zone around the impact point that lasts 15 seconds and afflicts targets with Slow while also causing them to deal 15% less damage for the duration.

Song of Eafir can be crafted at Ava McCabe in Ward 13 using a Scroll of Binding, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 500 Scrap. The Scroll of Binding is a special crafting material that can be acquired by solving the secret song puzzle in Yaesha. Solving the puzzle only rewards the players with the Bolt Driver Hand Gun, but you can also obtain the Scroll of Binding by talking to the Flautist afterward.

5 Fargazer

Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (6)

Fargazer is a mod that summons an eye capable of afflicting enemies with the Madness debuff. The eye focuses on the same target the player is looking at while aiming down sights and can apply up to 10 stacks of Madness per enemy. Each stack deals a small amount of damage, but it quickly adds up over the 30 seconds the mod remains active. Essentially, this is the same ability used by Legion, only with this mod, you’re not on the receiving end of it for once.

Fargazer can be crafted at Ava McCabe in Ward 13 using Agnosia Driftwood, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 500 Scrap. Agnosia Driftwood is a special crafting material that drops from Legion in Yaesha. The version of Fargazer used by Legion is significantly more powerful than the one you get from the mod and can be quite difficult to avoid. You’ll also have to deal with a bunch of adds during the fight, which makes things even harder. On the bright side, the boss has a weak spot so obvious that you can easily hit it from the other side of the map. If you can avoid its attacks and quickly take down the adds, you shouldn’t have any issues bringing down the boss.

4 Space Crabs

Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (7)

Space Crabs is a mod that launches an alien egg that cracks on impact and releases five Space Crabs that attack nearby enemies. The Crabs can only attack targets that are relatively close to the point of impact and blow themselves up upon hitting an enemy. However, each of them deals 60 damage in the process. That’s not a ton of damage in the grand scheme of things, but you do have five of these bugs and they count as summons, meaning they can be enhanced with certain items and Traits.

Space Crabs can be crafted at Ava McCabe in Ward 13 using a Cracked Shell, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 500 Scrap. The Cracked Shell is a special crafting material that drops from the Primogenitor on N’erud. The Primogenitor itself is a pretty weak boss, however, the big bug does come accompanied by a host of smaller critters. You’ll be severely outnumbered during this fight so prepare accordingly by equipping weapons and skills that deal AoE or cleave damage.

3 Blood Draw

Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (8)

Blood Draw is a mod that fires off Chain Shards that can impale up to five nearby targets. The chains deal a very small amount of damage upon impact, however, the mod has an additional effect where it pulls impaled targets toward the caster and causes them to take significantly more punishment. Not just that, but the chains also apply 275 points of Bleeding damage over 15 seconds. Needless to say, this mod works best with builds that rely heavily on melee damage. If you’re mostly fighting at range, it’s usually not a good idea to pull enemies in close.

Blood Draw can be crafted at Ava McCabe in Ward 13 using a Bloody Steel Splinter, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 500 Scrap. The Bloody Steel Splinter is a special crafting material that can be found in Losomn. To get your hands on it, you’ll have to pay tribute to the Red Prince by offering him at least three Crimson King Coins. These coins drop from the Teleport Fae found around the Council Chamber, Beatific Palace, and Postulant’s Parlor. Paying the tribute will allow you to skip the boss fight, but it will also prevent you from acquiring the Forlorn Fragment, which is needed to craft the Firestorm weapon mod. The Red Prince is one of the hardest boss fights in Remnant 2, so it's best to skip the fight if you're not ready for a serious challenge.

2 Corrosive Rounds/Hot Shot/Overflow

Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (9)

We’re cheating just a little bit here, but these three mods are so similar that it wouldn’t have made sense to have them as separate entries. All three mods imbue your ammunition with a certain type of elemental damage while also giving you a couple of other buffs. Corrosive Rounds imbues ammo with Toxic damage and increases Crit Chance by 15%, Hot Shot imbues ammo with Fire damage and increases Ranged damage by 15%, and Overflow imbues ammo with Shock damage and increases both Fire Rate and Reload Speed by 15%, each. In addition, every mod also applies a debuff. Namely, Corrosive Rounds applies Corroded, Hot Shot applies Burning, and Overflow applies Overloaded.

All three mods can be crafted at Ava McCabe in Ward 13, with Corrosive Rounds requiring Tainted Ichor, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 500 Scrap, Overflow requiring an Escalation Circuit, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 500 Scrap, and Hot Shot requiring a Root Ganglia and 1,500 Scrap. Root Ganglia drops from Remnant 2’s first boss, allowing you to acquire Hot Shot very early on. Meanwhile, Tainted Ichor drops from Magister Dullain in Losomn, and you can get an Escalation Circuit from the Abyssal Rift in N’erud. Just look for a hole in the floor behind a statue in the same building you’ll find the Custodian. Drop down and take the elevator to the underground chamber where you’ll stumble upon the crafting material.

1 Stasis Beam

Remnant 2: 10 Best Weapon Mods, Ranked (10)

Stasis Beam is a mod that fires a continuous beam that deals 15 damage per second while also applying Slow to the targeted enemy. If you focus the beam on the same enemy for at least 3 seconds, the target becomes completely frozen for 10 seconds. While you won’t be able to freeze bosses using Stasis Beam, the mod does work on most other enemies, including powerful Elites. Even more importantly, you can keep the beam up for a very long time provided you have enough Mod Power.

Stasis Beam can be crafted at Ava McCabe in Ward 13 using a Stasis Core, 5 Lumenite Crystals, and 500 Scrap. The Stasis Core is a special crafting material that can be acquired by solving the Zombie Cave event in N’erud. Due to how Remnant 2 works, the event isn’t guaranteed to spawn in everyone’s playthroughs. When it does, it comes in the form of an underground facility infested by zombies. Eliminate the zombies and make your way to the end of the dungeon to claim the Stasis Core.
